Research methodology
I had vaguely recollected seeing a squirrel in the Luttrell Psalter (British Library Add. MS 42130) but I couldn’t remember when, where, or how; in the flesh or online; so I reread that psalter until I found that squirrel again (f. 181v-182r). You will need to peer quite closely to spot our hero, who is only about one centimetre tall and known for being cannily evasive:
