On Spoons and Spooning

In Googling “medieval bent spoon”, I happened upon Top Ten Myths About the Middle Ages (featuring an image with a spoon playing a major role), c/o Listverse, who seem to specialise in Top Tens. Not usually my cup of tea really, being female and all; but they do feature a fair amount of the curious and kooky, indulge in the Great Art of juxtaposition, and are Meta.

Other results were predictably mixed. Many items featured are neither spoons, nor bent, let alone medieval. And then there was an ear spoon.

Cast pewter ear spoon & nail scraper (reproduction). Significant–for our purposes–difference between the late-1400s original and this modern version: the original was bent.

And that is why I love creative anachronists.
