A large part of my m-m-inactivity is, however, inevitable distraction by the activities of others elsewhere, right here right now (compared to, well, Medieval Europe…), and sub- consequent overwhelming feelings of shared humanity and solidarity dovetailing with but going well beyond The Kingdom Of Fife.

With fingers crossed–as far as that might be graciously permitted, and my honourable and respectful intentions accepted–for Algeria, Bahrain, Iran, Jordan, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Yemen.

It would be nice, I’d like to think, if this were to have something to do with knowledge and power, and a new paradigm shift accompanying technological change. I don’t mean any of this in the Foucauldian sense, or the dialectical progress one. Thinking Kuhn and Popper, rather; and evolution and revolution.

I’m also recalling my own first demonstrations, on my father’s shoulders, in 1977-80: for Amnesty International mainly, also Charter 77 and Solidarność. Very different circumstances: That was in Brussels, and it was safe. It was still exciting and an absolutely formative educational experience.
